Addicted to Yo-Yo dieting
Addicted to Yo-Yo dieting
VH Melville
I think I I chose to yo-yo. People were always nicer to me when I was losing. The first time I lost for the first time I got praise in a long time. We’re also at heart romantics, food is romantic and filled with not just nourishment but stories and memories. We feel guilty for this instead of bracing this fact.
Diets them self can have a sense of magic. It’s so fun to find a new diet instead of a diet we do long term like journaling.
I stopped receiving praise when I was ten. Are you addicted to dieting as much or more as being preoccupied with food?
1. Praise and award yourself for keeping it off.
2. Be kind to yourself.
3. What tips can you give to get rid of yo-yo addiction?
4. What diets have you been on?

i don't think i'm addicted to dieting but have been a yo-yo dieter in the past... i was read a book called diet survivor’s handbook and it said how going up/down in your weight can be very bad for you... each time you try to lose weight, your body holds onto it even more than before so it takes that much more effort to see results... there will always be fluctuations which is fine but losing/gaining 20 pounds over and over probably isn't...
i think the only way to avoid yo-you dieting unfortunately, is to monitor your weight on a regular basis... if you start to see a gain, cut back on some calories or add some exercise to your current plan... maintaining will always be harder than losing, in my opinion anyway...
as for diets, i've been on WW and then tried atkins a few years ago... i lost weight and inches and looked great but after 6 months, i was tired of the food i WAS eating and missed the food i WASN'T eating (like cereal & milk)... i gained it back plus more so now i'm back on WW and doing well... i'm also exercising a lot more which is the key to MY weightloss...
Thank you for your thought provoking response I truly enjoyed it.
Some diets are harder to maintain do to what I call the deprivation binge factor. We deprive until either half way or all a way to goal and binge. I had to learn to Adapt with WW.
I have bananas to freeze them . I used 1/8th cup of raisons for a point and tbs for .6 . I used powdered milk more. It has less calories then regular milk. I allow myself candy.
Without the depervation factor I find I like to est healthy more.
I did yo-yo for sure in the past, but this round...which has lasted 3-4 years now has either been a slow loss or a plateau. I've used a combination of Weight Watchers Online, Volumetrics, and seeing a nutritionist and of course exercise. Due to health problems and meds that have made me temporarily gain, I've been about the same weight for over a year now with still 20-30 lbs. to go to my goal. I'll get there eventually!
Venus you seem to be on the right track.
How is Volumetrics? I am not doing Volumetrics per say but I am a volume eater and I like the idea of the plan.
